Help support Seja get to paris

Sejal is a Year 11 student at Cherrybrook Technology High School. She has a real passion for Science and in particular finding solutions to real world problems in our society. She is currently studying Biology and Chemistry for the HSC. Ultimately, Sejal would like to go into a profession in the medical field but a job in Bio-medical engineering she would also be very happy with.

Sejal is one of two CTHS student science interns involved in The Future Project (TFP), hosted at The King’s School in their state of the art Science laboratories. The Project’s mission is to motivate and engage the next generation of scientists and engineers. These young science interns then work on authentic research projects in industry level laboratories, with research companies that are partners of TFP. Sejal notes she is loving the opportunity to work with research scientists and performing practical experiments which are contributing to solutions for the modern world.

The project Sejal and her team (involving students from nine high schools from across Sydney) are working on is looking at solutions to food waste issues. Within this larger goal, we aim to focus on the efficiency of existing bacteria that can turn naturally occurring sugars into hydrogen for further re-use in energy production.

This year, for the first time, a team from TFP will be competing in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition. iGEM is a global synthetic biology competition that began with undergraduate university students and has since extended to include divisions for post-graduates, entrepreneurs, community laboratories, and high schools.

The team that Sejal is working with has been invited to attend the iGEM competition in Paris in late October. As you can imagine this will represent significant cost to Sejal and her family, but also a great opportunity for her to expand on her passion.

It is for this reason that we are asking for help in the form of a GoFundMe page. Her family are up for a minimum $3,000 expense to get Sejal to Paris. If you would like to help Sejal in her quest to follow her Science dreams and attend the iGEM competition in Paris, France, please consider making a donation. Any amount would be gratefully accepted.
